Midwifery Care

Providing evidence-based midwifery services to the Driftless region

13 Moons Midwifery is an evidence based midwifery practice providing space & education for pregnant people to explore and nurture their mental, emotional, and physical health. I believe these are entwined and related to your childbearing and life experiences. I prioritize parental and neonatal safety while striving to maintain the integrity of each individual’s birth plan. The ultimate goal is for clients, and their families, to leave my practice having functionally improved their overall quality of life.

13 Moons Midwifery approaches care through the lens of true informed consent. All facets of your care are discussed thoroughly so that you can make informed choices. In addition to individualized midwifery care, I also offer additional educational opportunities including childbirth education, nutritional and lifestyle coaching, relationship building, family planning, and sexual health empowerment.

Prenatal Care

Prenatal visits are scheduled every 4-6 weeks for the first 28 weeks of pregnancy, every 2 weeks from 28 to 36 weeks, and weekly from 36 weeks to birth or 41 weeks. At 41 weeks of pregnancy visits will occur twice weekly.

Your initial prenatal visit will last about 90min. At this visit we will sign documents, discuss your intake information (completed online by you prior to our visit), and I will offer a basic physical exam as well as initial lab work.

Most other visits usually last about an hour. At every visit we will discuss various topics related to your stage of pregnancy, your options for testing, resources available, nutritional intake, and your birth/postpartum plans. I will monitor your vitals, your baby's heart rate, and measure their growth.

These visits are where we develop a working communication style and a trusting relationship so that I may best serve you.

I will begin being on call for your labor and birth at 37 weeks gestation. During this time we will be in communication as needed for your comfort and care. Once labor is active, I will come to your home to monitor and support your process. As your labor progresses, a second midwife will arrive to assist. After you and your new baby are stable, we will stay a minimum of 2 hours postpartum to monitor you both, clean you up, feed you and tuck you both in bed.

Postpartum visits occur at 24-48hrs, 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month, and 6 weeks.
